Aleem

Aleem Mahabir is a Research Fellow at the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI). His work sits at the intersection of urban social geography and psychology, with a focus on understanding how place, identity, and social structures shape the lived experiences of marginalized communities. His doctoral research explores the relationship between psychosocial dispositions, social exclusion, and underdevelopment among residents of vulnerable Caribbean neighborhoods.

Beyond his academic work, Aleem has contributed to a wide range of regional and international development initiatives. He has collaborated with organizations such as the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREE), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Bank, The Nature Conservancy, the Hungry Cities Partnership, and the Clinton Foundation. These projects reflect his commitment to applied research that informs policy and fosters inclusive, sustainable development.

Aleem is a finalizing Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geography and Geology at the University of the West Indies, Mona. He brings to his work a strong interdisciplinary lens, combining geography, psychology, and development studies to generate new insights for addressing social and economic inequalities in the Caribbean.
