On Wednesday, 28 October 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a Category 5 storm and became the most destructive hurricane in Jamaica’s recorded history. Exactly one year on, the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI) invites you to the launch of its new report, “Higher Ground: Lessons from Hurricane Melissa for Resilience, Relief, and Recovery,” which shows how Jamaica’s infrastructure and standards were built for the storms of its past rather than the stronger ones scientists had long warned were coming.
Join us for a presentation of the findings and a discussion of what Jamaica must do differently, from how it builds and protects its natural defences to how it delivers relief and pays for recovery.
