Communications and Advocacy Manager

Job Description: 
Working closely with CAPRI’s researchers and Director of Programmes, the Communications and Advocacy Manager will be responsible for the communications/advocacy activities surrounding CAPRI’s research and for the development of CAPRI’s reputation. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Main Duties: 
Track policy developments relevant to a range of research projects within CAPRI’s four thematic areas: the economy, sustainability, social issues, and governance. 
 Develop, with help from CAPRI’s Research Team, policy positions, white papers, speaking notes, and briefings. Design and implement — with assistance from the Communications Officer — communications strategies to grow awareness of CAPRI’s brand nationally and regionally. Design and implement — with assistance from the Communications Officer — communications and advocacy strategies for CAPRI’s research, including but not limited to traditional media, social media, and events. Work with the Executive Director to create quarterly KPIs for advocacy and brand awareness development. Monitor progress on KPIs and report to CAPRI’s Board of Directors quarterly. Draft engaging articles for popular media about CAPRI’s research. Organize and manage, in partnership with CAPRI’s communications team, high-level meetings with key local and national stakeholders. Establish and maintain relationships with policy makers, civil society organizations, editors, producers, and journalists. Represent CAPRI externally e.g. at events and conferences, with funders, and through civil society networks. Prepare and at times deliver testimony before councils, boards, commissions, legislative and other committees on issues related to CAPRI’s four thematic areas. Identify opportunities to develop CAPRI’s direct engagement of key stakeholders (media, policy makers, funders, etc). Pursue new potential project and funding possibilities related to CAPRI’s thematic areas and topics of interest. Provide guidance to researchers where needed for interviews, presentations, stakeholder meetings, etc. Contribute to the development of presentations, reports, charts, and project plans, and provide policy-related research support when needed. Contribute to the preparation of budgets, concept notes ,and proposals for various funding agencies. Provide advocacy-related training to the CAPRI team members as necessary.
Qualification ,Experience and Skills: 
Degree in communications, journalism, public administration, law, marketing or related field. At least two years’ experience in any one of the following fields: project management; communications; law; public policy; policy analysis/development; or monitoring and evaluation. Interest in public policy, specifically in the areas of the economy, governance, sustainability, and social issues. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-management skills; ability to interact with diverse groups and to communicate effectively with multiple audiences, Willingness to work outside of regular hours if needed. Government experience is preferred but not required.
