Answering to the Communications Officer, the Copy Editor will support Communication and Research Officers in vetting and editing documents on a contractual basis. He/she must have a strong aptitude for writing and knowledge or background in economic policy.
Checks for and corrects grammar, spelling, style mistakes, punctuation and consistency in text
Improve on formatting, style, accuracy of text
Consult with author to determine formatting/style requirements
Preparing and editing content for press releases, newsletters, brochures, promotional material etc
Adhering to company standard and style guidelines and ensuring that all materials match these guidelines
Assist in standardizing the organizations “House Style”
Recommend “Headlines” for major articles/output
Act as a fact checker, responsible for ensuring that names of people, places and organizations are spelled correctly and monitor for libel (defamatory statements that could lead to lawsuits)
At least two (2) years experience in a similar post
Undergraduate Degree or higher in English, Journalism or a related area
Excellent vocabulary, grammar and proof reading skills
Must be familiar with reference works and information sources of economic and social policy research/development
Skilled in evaluating, compiling and condensing information in a systematic and effective manner
Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely, as well as read and understand information presented both orally and in writing
Must be detail oriented and have the ability to learn as you go, while meeting tight deadlines
